Dr Martens Corset, 2023
Dr Martens Corset is a garment inspired by the iconic boot Dr Martens 1460. I have been wearing a pair of these boots for most of my life now and I wanted to celebrate them by creating a piece that would suit their spirit. I chose to make a 1890s Symmington corset reconstruction, based on the museum archive patterns. I finished the design with golden tape and flossing that is a reference to the iconic yeallow thread that Dr Martens is well known for. This corset to me mirrors the relationship I have with my boots. In the very beginning they were rigid and uncomfortable, much like an unseasoned corset. With time and with care, this corset, just like my boots has become one of my most comfortable and cherished pieces.
