World Wood Web, 2024
World Wood Web is a research project, investigating the ways of plant communication and its possible translations to mediums understood by human beings. I learned about the volatile compounds used by plants in the forest to spread messages around the woods. I gathered the information on the most distinct messages to me (attraction of pollinators, defence against pathogens, repelling of insects, healing of tissues) and reconstructed each of them in the biolab. To present them I used a blacked out room which I covered in photoluminescent pathways symbolising mycelium, which is another component of plant communication in the forest areas, and placed the scent covered fabric in the “scent spots” around the room. The audience could wal around the paths and discover different scents, later to learn about each of them after exiting the installation.
